Semi Private Tour - Thursday August 27th. - Upstate Hiking Day Tour.
3 stops: A waterfall, a mountain top & an escarpment.
We will start our tour at 7:00 am. You will be picked up by one of our guides at the corner of 86th Street and Lexington Avenue, by the Petco store (4, 5 or 6 train to 86th street). DON'T BE LATE! You will be greeted by our tour guide and you will have to sign our liability waiver.
Our first stop of the day is the Minekill Falls. A picturesque waterfall cascading 80 feet through a narrow gorge.
The hike to see the fall is about a 20 min one way on a well marked but a little steep trail.
Next stop for the day is Vroman's Nose. Vroman's Nose is a prominent geological feature in Schoharie County. It is among the more popular hiking sites in upstate New York and is of significant historical note.
A relative short hike offers beautiful views of the SchoharieValley and the Village of Middleburgh.
Vroman's Nose is a portion of the Long Path hiking trail. Vroman's Nose not only encompasses the basic hiking trails, but also notes of interest. These include the summit, which is a large, flat surface left by glacial movements. This is called the "Dance Floor." There is also a location near the Summit that may have been used by Patriot snipers during the Revolution.
In the afternoon we will hike the Indian Ladder trail. The hiking trail follows a ledge along the breathtaking limestone cliffs of the Helderberg Escarpment. The trailhead begins with descending 60 ft (18 m) to the base of the escarpment via a metal staircase. From here you will walk along the base of the escarpment passing under the MinelotFalls and passing many small caves on the way while you will enjoy beautiful views.
In addition, interpretive signs are located along the trail provides some geology lessons and Native American history.
