Tour 6: Amish Country & Crystal Cave (Pennsylvania)

 

 

We will start our tour at 7:00 am in midtown Manhattan, 8th Avenue between 33rd and 34th Street (by Duane Reade) DON'T BE LATE! Come 15 minutes early to check in. You will be greeted by your tour guide for the day. You will sign our liability waiver, and after departure a light breakfast will be served on board the coach.

Start the day with exploring one of the greatest natural wonders of Pennsylvania, Crystal Cave.
You will receive a guided underground tour learning about some of the amazing limestone formations and the historical and geological significance that the cave has.


We will then drive to the oldest Amish community in America, Amish country in Lancaster County. Start with a lunch including traditional Amish dishes.

In the afternoon you will step back in time and experience the life and heritage of the Amish community. Learn about the daily life of a self sufficient community that has remained true to their beliefs meanwhile the rest of the world has changed.

Enjoy an educational guided tour through an 1840's Amish farm house and see a one room schoolhouse, a blacksmith shop and farm animals typical for the Amish community.
You will also have the opportunity of buying authentic Amish art, handicrafts and homemade jams and jellies.

 

 

The last activity for the day is when you get to experience how the Amish travel, an original Amish buggy. Take a leisurely trip through the back roads of the Amish country side and ride through a real non-commercial working Amish Farm.

We will drive back to NYC.
Arrival back to NYC at approximately 8 - 8:30pm.

 

Hines Tours reserves the right to alter the itinerary, plans and arrangements for the tour, if in the judgment of Hines Tours it becomes advisable to do so.

 

 

 

What to bring and wear on the tour:

ID: Do to heightened national security; you will need to bring a valid government issued identification.

CLOTHES: according to the weather. If the weather is hot you should still always bring a light jacket or a sweater. The temperature in Crystal Cave is a constant 54 degrees.

WATER: In a plastic bottle, especially on hot days. Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.

CAMERA: With extra film/memory is highly recommended.

CASH: Although our tour is classified as an "all inclusive". It is advisable to bring some cash for souvenirs and gratuities for the guide which is left to your discretion.

AN OPEN MIND: Although this is a recreational/leisure tour, you will also learn about geology, history and learn about the lifestyle of the Amish people.
