Raptor and Wolf Encounter

 

 

We will start our tour at 7:00 am in midtown Manhattan. 8th Avenue between 33rd and 34th Street (by Duane Reade) DON'T BE LATE! Come 15 minutes early to sign in. You will be greeted by your tour guide for the day. You will sign our liability waiver, and after departure a light breakfast will be served on board the coach.

This tour is a true treat for any animal enthusiast. We will start the day driving to Hawk Mountain in Pennsylvania. Hawk Mountain is the world's first refuge for birds of prey.

You will receive an introduction by a Sanctuary Educator followed by a live raptor program featuring a one of the sanctuary’s educational raptors. Your introduction will provide you with information about raptors, migration, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary history and trail guidelines as well as the opportunity to see a raptor up close and learn about its amazing adaptations.

 

 

Afterwards we will head out to hit the hiking trails. You will have the option of a 2 mileguided hike (Roundtrip) to a view point where we will be looking for raptors. (Bring binoculars if you own them) or you can do some shorter hikes on your own.

Next we visit a Wolf Preserve in New Jersey, a true extraordinary animal encounter. Watch and listening to packs of Tundra, Timber and Arcticwolves.  View the wolves in their natural surrounding for the first time in over a century in the Eastern US.

 

 

Upon arrival at the Preserve you will be invited to the observation area, in the center of four packs of wolves. Learn from the people who raised and care for the wolves. Learn about the social structure of wolf packs, their eating habits, their interaction with man and many other interesting facts.  While in the observation area you will be able to watch the wolves play, interact with each other and maybe even hear them howl.

Bobcats and foxes also reside at the reserve.

We will drive back to NYC.

Arrival back to NYC at approximately 7 pm.

WHAT TO BRING AND WEAR ON THE TOUR:

ID: Please bring a valid government issued identification.

CLOTHES: According to the weather. The Pocono's Mountains is usually about 8-12 degrees cooler than NYC. It is always a good idea to dress in layers.

FOOTWEAR: We will be hiking in a rocky mountaineer terrain which gets very slippery when wet. Hiking boots is ideal, or sneakers with good traction. Do not wear sandals, dress shoes or high heels during the hike.

WATER: In a plastic bottle, especially on hot days. Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.

MOSQUITO REPELLANT containing deet

CAMERA: With extra memory/film is highly recommended.

BINOCULARS: If you own them. Will help you view wildlife

CASH: Although our tour is classified as an "all inclusive". It is advisable to bring some cash for souvenirs, snacks and gratuities for the guide which is left to your discretion.

AN OPEN MIND: Although this is a recreational/leisure tour, you will also learn about wildlife.
