Eastern State Penitentiary
Enjoy an exciting day full of history, nature and art. We will start the day driving to Philadelphia to visit the Eastern State Penitentiary. Known for its grand architecture and strict discipline, this was the world’s first true penitentiary.

When the building was built it was the largest and most expensive public structure ever constructed of its kind, quickly becoming a model for more than 300 prisons worldwide. The prison once held many of America’s most notorious criminals.

Chicago's most famous mob boss, Al Capone, spent eight months at Eastern State in 1929-1930. He was arrested for carrying a concealed, deadly weapon; this was Capone's first prison sentence.

After 142 years of consecutive use (1829 - 1971), Eastern State Penitentiary was completely abandoned in 1971, and is now a U.S National Historic Landmark.

At the prison you will enjoy “The Voices of Eastern State" Audio Tour. This is narrated by actor Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire, Fargo, Armageddon and Ghost World) and mixed with voices of former wardens, guards and inmates, creating an intimate walking tour of the cellblocks and yards.

In some of the cells, you will also experience a critically acclaimed series of artist installations.

We will eat lunch at a local restaurant

Terror Behind the Walls

After dark we will drive back to the Eastern State Penitentiary, which host “Terror Behind the Walls”. Imagine yourself being inside in the dark abandoned real life haunted prison with massive castle-like walls, walking through the decrepit corridors and cell blocks. No wonder why many people consider this the nation’s premier haunted attraction, head and shoulders above hayrides and other haunted houses.

Terror Behind the Walls attracts visitors from all around the world, and is consistently ranked among the top 10 haunted attractions in the country. Terror Behind the Walls is known for its innovative attractions that integrate animatronics props, digital sound, high-tech lighting and many realistic monsters and zombies portrayed by some very convincing actors. You will experience six separate indoor and outdoor maze type attractions each themed for the specific areas of the prison that you walk through.

Prepare to visit a real haunted building.

Throughout the years, both officers and inmates have reported mysterious visions and eerie experiences in the ancient prison. With the growing interest in paranormal investigations, Eastern State Penitentiary may be the most extensive studied building in the United States for paranormal investigations.
