Tour 8: Sam’s Point, Awosting Falls & Huguenot Street (Shawangunk Mountains)

We will start our tour at 7:00 am. We will meet at 2nd. Ave between 80th and 81st Street in Manhattan by H&H Midtown Bagels East. DON'T BE LATE! Come 15 minutes early to check in.

You will be greeted by your tour guide for the day. You will sign our liability waiver, and after departure a light breakfast will be served on board the coach.

The first stop on this tour is the Sam's Point preserve. 5,400 acres shelters one of the few remaining examples of ridge top dwarf pine barrens in the world and represent one of the highest priorities for conservation in the northeastern United States.

Here we will hike a 3 mile roundtrip through a rare and endangered ecosystem to the Ice Caves. Explore some of the cave's hidden chambers.

The Ice Caves gets its name from air trapped inside the cave cold enough for snow and ice to stay through mid summer.

Along the way to the Ice Caves you will also hike up to the spectacular view point, Sam’s Point. From here you see not only the Hudson valley and the Catskills, but all the way to New Jersey.

We will enjoy a lunch including non-alcoholic beverages.

Next, we will visit the Minnewaska State Park where we will indulge in a short hike to the Awosting Falls, a 60 foot straight fall from a tall cliff on the Peters Kill Creek. Take photos and enjoy the natural surroundings.

The last stop for the day is Huguenot Street, a National Historic Landmark District featuring the oldest continuously inhabited street in America. View an unparalleled collection of historic stone houses dating back to the early 1700s. Get a guided tour of some of the houses.

The guides are well informed locals who are enthusiastic in their interests and knowledge and want to take you back in time to some of the original settlers' lives.

We will drive back to NYC. Arrival back to NYC at approximately 7- 7:30pm.
