John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park
We will visit this State Park located in the Florida Keys. Established in 1963, this was the first underwater park in the US. The primary attractions of the park are its coral reefs.
The reefs may be viewed from glass-bottom boats, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Other activities available in the park are kayaking, stand-up paddle board, fishing, hiking, swimming and wildlife viewing.

One of the most famous sites in the State Park is the Christ of the Abyss. The 8 1⁄2-foot-tall statue of Jesus Christ weighs 4,000 pounds and stands in nearly 25 feet of water. It is a popular site for scuba divers and snorkelers. If you book a snorkeling tour, it is not guaranteed that you will visit this site.
The visitor center features a 30,000 gallon saltwater aquarium and six smaller aquariums. The State Park also has a natural history exhibit about the park's different biological communities and ecosystems and a theater showing nature Films and videos.
You don’t have to book any of the tours, you can also just relax by the beach or enjoy some nature trails.
