Tour 52 Details
 

We will start our tour at 7:00 am in midtown Manhattan, 8th Avenue between 33rd and 34th Street (by Duane Reade) DON'T BE LATE! Come 15 minutes early to sign in.

You will be greeted by your tour guide for the day. You will sign our liability waiver, and after departure a light breakfast will be served on board the van.

 

On this tour you will experience 5 different small hikes/walks in the beautiful Shawangunks Mountains, the hikes/walks will varies from 5 – 60 minutes in lengths, most of them in very different beautiful natural settings.

 

 

Bear Hill Nature Preserve: Hike 1.2 Mile 82 ft Elevation Gain

Bear Hill Nature Preserve is a privately owned nature preserve which is open to the public, we will indulge ourselves in a relative flat hike to a ridge top with stunning views.

 

 

Stone Church: Walk 0.1 Mile 10 ft Elevation Gain  

We will visit a historical stone church built in 1897.

 

A short walk behind church will take us to this amazing viewpoint.

 

If the church is open and no services is ongoing, we will walk inside to see the beautiful architecture.

 

Fire Tower: Hike 0.6 Mile - 170 ft Elevation Gain

For about 100 years, observers watched the forests of New York State from more than 100 fire towers perched atop the highest peaks, searching for signs of forest fires.

In the 1980s, the State of New York began to phase out the use of fire towers for spotting forest fires, and in 1990, the last 5 towers still in operation were closed. Across the state grassroots, volunteer-based initiatives were formed to try to save the towers and many fire towers across the state have been restored. We will hike a short hike to one of these fire towers and enjoy the magnificent views. Use your mouse to look around above.

Stony Kills Falls: Hike 1 Mile - 209 ft Elevation Gain

We will hike to the 87 feet high Stony Kill Falls. The falls can only be view from a viewing area in front of the fall.

 

The hiking trail to the falls is relatively easy by way of a gravel trail, wooden bridges and rock stairs. If you feel like it you can continue on the trail to the stream above the falls, on the way you will walk by this escarpment.

 

On the top of the waterfall you will find a nice view and a walking by the creek you will also see some nice natural pools.

 

 

Awosting Falls 1.1 Mile 118 ft Elevation

Visit the Minnewaska State Park and indulge in a short hike to the Awosting Falls, a 65 foot straight fall from a tall cliff on the Peters Kill Creek. (Notice the person in the white shirt to get a size comparison of the waterfall)

 

Take photos and enjoy the natural surroundings. Look around now with your mouse.

 

We will drive back to NYC.
Arrival back to NYC at approximately 7 - 8 pm.

 

WHAT TO BRING AND WEAR FOR THE TOUR

ID: Please bring a valid government issued identification. (Adults only)

TOUR CONFIRMATION: Either on your phone or printed out

CLOTHES: according to the weather. 

FOOTWEAR: Good walking shoes or sneakers. Do not wear dress shoes or high heels.

RAIN GEAR: Even with no rain in the forecast, we recommend you bring some rain gear.

WATER: In a plastic bottle, especially on hot days. Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.

CAMERA: With extra memory/film is highly recommended. You will experience breath taking scenery.

CASH: Although our tour is classified as an "all inclusive". It is advisable to bring some cash for snacks and gratuities for the guide which is left to your discretion.
